The first step is to make sure the location you choose for your pool is in a area that has no underground utilities, water mains, sewer mains or septic beds etc!
Once the location for the pool is confirmed clear of any obstructions, the layout for the area of excavation can be performed!
The excavation layout should be one foot larger in both width and length of the proposed pool "example" a 16 x 32 x 6 pool would call for a 17 x 33 layout!
The proposed depth of the excavation should be 6" deeper than the depth of the pool, this allows for a 6" stone bed to be used as the base for the pool!
The stone bed should always be compacted with a plate tamper to ensure proper compaction of the stone base. Otherwise the pool will settle once water is added causing the pool to be out of level!
The ideal stone to be used for the stone base is either a 3/8 or 1/2" crushed or clean. Both the 3/8 and or 1/2" will also be used as backfill around the pool once the pool has been set into the excavated hole!
Once the proper stone height is achieved, the pool can now be set into the excavated hole. There's four points on the outside of the pool for hoisting, two on each side and on either ends! Straps are required for hoisting the pools, using chains could cause damage to the pool from the loose end of the chain falling into the pool!
The next step is to level the pool, a rotating laser that is properly calibrated will ensure accurate readings of the trueness of the pool!
If the pool is out of level, whether it is hi or low, the pool will need to be rigged with straps and lifted to adjust the stone base in order to get the pool level!
Once the pool is set and level, the next step is to plumb the pool to the pump/filter and heater if applicable and install the electrical conduit and wiring for the light if applicable.
After the plumbing is complete, an air test is performed to make sure there is no leaks! The pool can be then be backfilled with the 3/8 or 1/2" stone.
Its extremely important to add water as the backfill process is underway.
Both the backfill and water should be kept at a tolerance of a one foot difference, meaning the water or stone shouldn't be more than one foot in height of each other! "example" if the backfill is halfway up from the bottom of the pool then the water should be either one foot higher or lower than the backfill!
The excavation area around the pool should be allowed to settle on its own before the pools deck is installed! The length of time needed differs, depending on how much over dig the excavator made while excavating also it depends how deep the pool is! Eight foot deep pools require more time to settle verses a five to six foot deep pool! A eight foot deep pool should be left to settle for a good month and a half!
